The Monomoy life boat, also known as a surf boat, was in very bad shape with rotted hull boards and rudder, broken ribs, corroded keel bolts and other structural issues that had to be addressed prior to being presented to the public. A crew of volunteers spent thousands of hours first removing the elements that needed replacing, where possible using those pieces as templates for fabricating new pieces, using time honored wood working techniques fabricating new boards where templates didn't exist, and restoring the boat with fresh hardware and paint.

The following pictorial is an attempt to convey the amount of loving care and dedication that went into the Monomoy's restoration project.
