The Bermuda Clipper The Forgotten Era of Flying Boats Presentation by Gil Kaufman

February 11, 2011, 7:30 pm

Kaufman's presentation will describe a largely forgotten era of the aircraft industry, largely in the late 1930s, when flying boats known as the '"Clippers" provided first class passenger air service around much of the world. Kaufman will describe these unique aircraft in some detail, focusing on the Bermuda Clipper and its followers, and cover why they came to be and why they disappeared.  The Bermuda Clipper provided air service between Port Washington, Maryland and Hamilton,  Bermuda.

Gil Kaufman has had more than 50 years of experience in the aluminum industry, including executive management positions with Alcoa, Atlantic Richfield, and the Aluminum Association.  For many of those years he focused on aircraft and aerospace applications of aluminum.  His has published more than 150 articles and six books on these interests as well as some on his principal hobbies, genealogy and aerospace philately.
