SHIP RESTORATION REPORT 2009 SEASON
After the Ship returned May 31, 2009, we had a very successful year in our restoration efforts. Restoration hours for this season were 2,275 which brings the grand total to 15,365 hours.
· Refigured and repaired all mooring cables
· Removed 28,000 lbs. of ballast from the forward engine room bilge area
· Forward engine room: completely cleaned, repainted all deck plates and completed other painting as needed
· Cleaned and painted forward hold in the Seaman’s area
· Cleaned and painted hold in the Officer’s area (shaft alley)
· Second level of ship: entirely cleaned, repainted deck from bow to stern and all other areas that required painting was completed
· Top level of ship (outside): completely cleaned, all decks and superstructure were repainted
· Pilot house and transmitter room were cleaned and repainted
· The electrical system for the top mast light was completely replaced
· A number of electrical circuits were repaired or replaced
· All support cables, except 2, were re-greased
· A number of welding repairs were made on the top deck
· Work continued on the porthole lights to eliminate leaks
· Working with the BPW we now have a new underground electrical service to the Ship and the Historical Society’s Boat House. There are now two separate services with 2 meters and 2 monthly bills
